FAQ
Questions, answered.
Everything applicants usually ask about the Brook Church-Koegel Scholarship.
Who is eligible?
Any U.S.-based student currently enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States — undergraduate or graduate, any major, any background. The scholarship is open to all.
How much is the award?
$1,000, awarded to one student. The award is paid to the recipient's college or university and applied 100% to tuition; it is not paid to the student and cannot be used for housing, books, or other expenses.
Are graduate students eligible?
Yes — both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible.
Do I need to be a U.S. citizen?
No. Citizenship is not a requirement — you must be U.S.-based and enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university.
Is there an application fee?
No. There is never a fee to apply, and you will never be asked for payment information at any step. A scholarship that asks for money is not a scholarship.
Is there a GPA requirement?
No GPA cutoff. Selection is based on your essay and the evidence it gives of initiative, persistence, and clarity of purpose.
What does the application involve?
Your name and email, your college or university, whether you're an undergraduate or graduate student, your program or field of study, your expected graduation year, a 500–800 word essay on the prompt — tell us about something you've built, and what it taught you about building things that last — and a confirmation that you've read the official rules and privacy notice. Nothing else: no GPA, transcript, student ID, address, phone number, or photo. See the Apply page for details.
Will my name be published if I win?
Only if you agree. After selection, the recipient is asked in writing what, if anything, they want published — name, school, photo, or an excerpt from the essay. Declining publicity does not affect the award. The details are in the official rules.
What happens to my application information?
It is used only to run the scholarship, is never sold or used for marketing, and applications that aren't selected are deleted within twelve months after the announcement. The applicant privacy notice explains what is collected, what is never asked for, and how to see, correct, or delete your information.
When is the application deadline?
at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. Late submissions can't be considered, so give yourself a buffer — don't leave it to the final hour.
When is the winner announced?
— ten days after the deadline. Applications are reviewed between December 1 and 10, the recipient is notified by email, and the announcement goes up on the Updates page.
The $1,000 is then paid to the recipient's institution in mid-December and applied 100% to tuition.
Who funds the scholarship?
It is funded personally by Brook Church-Koegel — founder & CEO of Alpha Capital Management and founder of the education platforms Advisors Edge and the Insurance Education Institute.
